Royal Jubilee Tea Party was a SUCCESS!
Written for the Point Vicente Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) Monthly Newsletter.
Our incredible former PR Chair Lynda Sakamaki-Shepard did a fantastic job reaching out to our community. One of her lasting contributions to our Chapter was the relationship she built with the local digital lifestyle magazine editor Lianne LaReine of The Palos Verdes Pulse. Before moving out of town, Lynda forwarded on an invitation to a benefit for the Palos Verdes Art Center and the Palos Verdes Historical Society promoted by Lianne and Palos Verdes Pulse. Considering the event was all about Fancy Hats, Jewels and Bubbly - a Royal Tea Party honoring the Queen’s 70th Jubilee - Alta, her longtime friend Sandy and your new Beacon Editor/PR Chair Diana Starr couldn’t resist attending.
The hats were impressive, and the champagne flowed, but the presentation by Bonhams Auction House on famous jewelry was jaw dropping! Fun was had by all.
The point of this titillating event was to reinvigorate the Palos Verdes Historical Society and the Palos Verdes Art Center after such a long period of inactivity. The President of the Historical Society, Dana Graham (no relation to our Regent) also informed the audience that they are actively seeking support to build a new museum for the multitude of artifacts that have been in storage for decades, among them Native American artifacts, original Vanderlip models of the titan’s vision for Palos Verdes and even a Mammoth tusk unearthed on the Peninsula!
The Mission of the Historical Society is “To nurture an interest in our local history, its land and its people. To fascinate residents of all ages and inspire curiosity and learning.
